Every James Bond fan knows the Goldfinger movie, named after its villain, Auric Goldfinger - not to be confused with the Man with the Golden Gun. Liquid Gold is a custom-made, mid-to-low cost PC, designed to have an impressive black-gold appearance. It would have definitely pleased Mr. Goldfinger.

The Liquid Gold Tower 296u2
The base for the Liquid Gold is the NZXT S340 Midi Tower.
As many of NZXT's towers, the S340 doesn't have 5.25 drive bays for a DVD-RW drive. Which isn't really a problem, because optical disks are on their way out, thanks to large capacity USB drives and faster Internet speeds.
Instead of the drive bays, we will find a large NZXT fan, at U height, with an option for a second one that will blow directly to the GPU and the hard drives.
The choice of the motherboard was was an older model, Asus Z87-PRO, that comes with gold-plated heatsinks and yellow plastic for most of the PCI-Express ports.
The only downside of the Z87 chipset is that it is not compatible with the Broadwell line of 1150 Us. Although, truth be told, the Broadwell desktop Us never really took off - Skylake's appearance overshadowed them - and since z87 can up to an i7 4790K, nothing is really lost.
The Corsair Vengeance Pro Series RAM 2x4GB modules also come with gold-plated heatsinks.
The U used is the famous low budget choice Intel Pentium G3258. For the time being, it will also serve as a GPU, a separate GPU will be added later.
The selection of a PSU with bronze-looking cables is a nice touch. The PSU of choice is Seasonic M12II-520 Bronze EVO Edition.
The hard drive, not currently pictured, is the Samsung 840 Evo 256GB SSD.
How much did the Liquid Gold Tower cost? 1u636l
This particular synthesis doesn't aspire to be a hardcore gaming rig. Just a very good looking PC for Internet browsing, music, and movies.
With the current cost for the selected parts on Amazon, the whole rig costs $591.97, with the motherboard and the SSD being the most expensive parts.
The only part not exactly fitting with the black-gold combination is the factory U cooler. But good U coolers that also come in gold are hard to come by.
